A Musical Song Cycle by JASON ROBERT BROWN.

Artistic and Musical Direction by SCOTT CLINKSCALES

Assistant Director LISA GOLDBERG

Choreography by HALEY IZURIETA

“Songs for a New World” is, according to composer Jason Robert Brown, “about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.” With a rousing score that blends elements of pop, gospel and jazz, featuring tight harmonies and darling vocals, “Songs for a New World” transports its audience from the deck of a Spanish sailing ship bound for a new land, to the ledge of a New York penthouse. Characters range from a young man in the Bronx who dreams of becoming a famous basketball player, to a forlorn and neglected Mrs. Claus lamenting as Christmas approaches. A small but powerful diverse cast and a supercharged, well-crafted score appeal to old and new generations alike as each character — in their own way — takes hold of that one moment and enters a new world.

Award-winning photograher, Mitch Miller, guides students through photo composition. He will discuss visual harmony, rhythm, and balance. Learn how different types of line make us feel, and how we can use this in composition.  The class is interactive beginning with students submitting samples of a landscape scene or subject photograph they took prior to the class. Mitch will use them during the class (anonymously of course) as a part of class discussion. Students can take notes and/or Mitch will email students a link to a recording of the class. Students then use the newly learned skills to re-shoot their photo making improvements taught in class. Each student can email Mitch 3 of their new landscape images for personal critique and suggestions if desired.

More details about the workshop can be found on their website!

Participants will be taken through a step-by-step procedure to make a pinch pot bowl from a simple ball of stoneware clay.  By working in a series, participants will be able to use timing and skill  development to create several pots.  Following the class, students will be invited to deliver their finished work to Ed Keesling to be included in a single firing in a high fired kiln.
